Awareness of Circumstances

Why Awareness?


The definition of awareness is knowledge or perception of a situation or fact.


In this blog, we are focusing on self-awareness, especially of your circumstances.


Many years ago, I was going around the same mountain, for years, not being aware that I was stuck and in bondage in some of my circumstances.


It wasn’t until I began reading books and started to gain the right knowledge that I became aware of how stuck I was.  I thought I was doing okay because I always continue moving forward no matter what. The real change came in my life after being aware of the stuckness and bondage and doing something about it.


This is why it is so important to do self-awareness, and in all areas of your life.  We need to overstand our circumstances in order to make real and lasting change in our lives.


Here are 3 quick tips to help with awareness:


1.    Take an assessment of your life to help you gain some perspective.  This will determine if you are stuck and in bondage.

2.    Get a journal and organize your thoughts.  It is one of the best ways to see what is going on around you and inside of you.

3.  Reflect on your behavior.  Ask yourself questions, e.g. how do I handle difficulties, am I adaptive, how did I handle the last difficult situation, etc.

Developing Discernment


Once you are aware, after doing self-reflection, you can now discern your situations to know how to move forward with them.


For instance, when I became aware that I was eating emotionally, I began to discern where it was coming from, getting to the root of it, then I started researching about food addiction [note: there is a lot of information out there about it.]  I purchased books to read to help me overcome and be unstuck from emotional eating.  It’s been quite a few years that I stopped eating emotionally and it all began when I became aware of my circumstances.  I even wrote my story, you can check out my book Food Addiction: The Struggle Has been Real go to, click on shop, and scroll down until you see it :).


If I didn’t do self-reflection and become aware that I was eating emotionally, I wouldn’t have done anything about it and I would have stayed stuck in the cycle of eating emotionally, going around the same mountain and expecting different results.


A little bit more on discernment:


*Discernment is to make proper determinations.


*Discernment is having or showing good judgment.


*Discernment is to distinguish, to separate out by diligent search, and to thoroughly examine.


To discern, is to analyze situations, analyze your life. To analyze if how you are living is what you really want. 


Is your life the way you want it to be?  If not, determine the right path to take, decipher your circumstances and do something different.  If we don’t do anything different, nothing changes, and in fact, things get worse; and I’m speaking from experience.
