“How I Allowed Food To Rob Me Of My Life”

For many years I suffered in silence being stuck in the vicious cycle of emotional eating that progressed to food addiction.

At the time, I didn’t realize how much I had allowed food to rob me of my life.

It started with not feeling good about myself for overeating, then gaining excess weight on my body as a result of overeating.

I was embarrassed and ashamed of allowing myself to overeat and gain excess weight, and with the embarrassment and shame, it makes you want to hide.

One way I allowed food to rob me of my life was, when I started gaining the excess weight, I had to buy bigger clothes. I would cut the label out of the clothes to not show the size I was buying. This was trying to hide, even though the size of my body could still be seen.

Another way I was robbed of my life with food was I never talked about the internal issues, no one knew the battles going on in my mind, on a daily basis, regarding food.

The problem with food addiction is that we have to eat, we don’t have to smoke, drink alcohol or take drugs, but we have to eat. This is one of the reasons it’s been such a struggle and as I said, I allowed myself to be robbed of my life because of it.

Another thing that I allowed food to rob me of my life was not wanting to go out. There are many times I forced myself to go out because of wanting to enjoy my life. If I didn’t force myself, I would have stayed home, and would have probably ate because of not going out.

And there is more… Such a vicious cycle…

I am thankful that I am no longer allowing food to rob me of my life. The change started with being aware of the issue and then taking steps to overcome it. Here are 3 tips to help with not allowing food to rob you of your life:

1) Seek help. I read books, took courses, and did coaching programs.

2) Do something different. If we keep doing the same things, we won’t have lasting change.

3) Commit to change, and create new norms.

“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” Benjamin Franklin

Not allowing food to rob you of your life is a part of victorious living.

Question: What is something that you have allowed to rob you of your life?

We first have to recognize what it is, then take steps to get it because it doesn’t just happen, like I mentioned above, we have to do something different. We have to make the conscious effort to have lasting change and live our best lives now in all ways.
